The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge protects and conserves the unique qualities of the Okefenokee Swamp, located in southern Georgia. It is one of the world's largest intact freshwater ecosystems and recognized as a Wetland of International Importance. The reserve covers more than 350,000 acres and is a hot spot for outdoor activity. Wilderness canoeing is popular here, as alligators, bears, herons and egrets roam through the reserve's various hammocks and islands. Overnight paddling and camping are available here, as well.
