Meredosia National Wildlife Refuge Details
Managed under the Illinois River National Wildlife and Fish Refuges Complex, the Meredosia Refuge is one of three protected areas in the Illinois River basin region. The refuge is located on the upper end of the Alton Navigation Pool and covers 3,582 acres. It also hosts multiple types of landscapes from bottomland forests to natural prairie. The acquisition is not yet complete, but because the area has such a variety of seasonal water areas, it creates an ideal home for native species, waterfowl, and passerine birds.
