Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge Details

The Emergency Wetland Reserve Act was established to protect, restore, and manage wetlands and bottomland forests. Because of this act, the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1990 in order to provide high quality habitat, support biodiversity, encourage recreational activities, and enhance public education in the area. Nestled in the Cache River watershed between the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, the forest has some of the most diverse bottomland trees and swamplands around. 91% of the states swamplands are contained in the refuge and the bald cypress around 100 years old.
