Providence Mountains State Recreation Area Details

Overlooking the Mojave Desert, this park on the eastern side of the Providence Mountains is an excellent spot for hiking and wildlife viewing. The two nature trails take you up close and personal to various native plants and animals, like bighorn sheep, badgers, and cottontail rabbits. The park is also home to the Mitchell Caverns Natural Preserve, the only limestone caves in all of California. You can take a guided tour to see the awe-inspiring stalactite and stalagmite rock formations and fossils that date back 10,000 years.
