The grasslands of Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area boasts the largest of the three remaining greater prairie chicken flocks in Illinois. Centered in the 1,775-acre park is the Newton Lake and 540 acres of shoreline. Visitors can hunt deer, upland game, waterfowl and turkey with archery or shotguns; fish the great bass population of the lake, or explore the twenty-two miles of trail along the shoreline.
