This is one of the more unique attractions in Illinois that is guaranteed to delight both nature enthusiasts and animal lovers. Olney is a small town located in the southeastern part of the state that has become world-famous for its resident albino squirrels. Although there are conflicting stories as to how these adorable, fluffy creatures came to live here, that has not stopped Olney from making the white squirrel the unofficial mascot for the town. Not only are these critters well-cared for, but they are also heavily protected by the city (white squirrels have the right of way on the road). Your best chance of seeing them is early in the morning around dusk when they flock to the parks by the dozens to feed.
