Possum Kingdom State Park Details

Sandwiched between the Palo Pinto Mountains and the Brazos River sits this 1,530-acre park. Its also adjacent to Possum Kingdom Lake, which boasts over 300-miles of shoreline. The waters here are strikingly clear and blue, making it a popular destination for fishing, boating, snorkeling, diving, and swimming. The Brazos River Authority owned the park until 1940 until it was purchased by the state and opened as a state park in 1950. Many of the facilities in the park were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1940s, including the roads, picnic tables, and campsites that you see today. Besides being able to rent kayaks, canoes, wakeboards, waterskis, and innertubes, the park also has excellent fishing facilities like a fishing pier and fish cleaning station. The waters are home to striped bass, white crappies, and blue catfish.
