Martin Dies, Jr. State Park Details

With 700-acres of alpine forest and wetlands, this park sits at the intersection of the Angelina and Neches River. Untouched by mass tourism and industrialization, it's easily one of the prettiest places in Texas to enjoy the serene beauty of Mother Nature. Martin Dies, Jr. was a state senator in the mid-1960s who extensively lobbied for a new state park to be built in the area. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department opened the park in 1965 after leasing the land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and named it after the local politician. Exploring the peaceful forest is one of the main activities in the park, with hundreds of southern red oaks, loblollies, bald cypress, and sweet gum trees dotted along the area. The rivers are also nearby, which means you can go swimming, fishing, or paddling during your visit. The park also has over 200 campsites, cabins, and shelters for overnight stays. Entrance Fees - Adult: $4 Daily - Child 12 Years and Under: Free Reservations are available [online] (https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/martin-dies-jr-state-park/r/facilityDetails.do?contractCode=TX&parkId=1200080&_ga=2.235223940.447085507.1618845916-917412064.1616861417) or by calling (512) 389-8900
