Sawmill Trail Details
Located in the heart of Angelina National Forest is this beginner-friendly hiking trail. It is a beautiful trek through the thick pine forest and along a babbling creek, although those aren't the only exciting things to see during your hike. Start at the Boykin Springs Recreation Center and make the 2.5-mile trek to the Aldridge Sawmill Historic Sight, a hand-poured concrete mill that was built in 1911 (the original timber mill burnt down six years after it was constructed). The mill was shut down in 1927 and left to crumble, and you will be able to see the ruins of what once stood during your hike through the park. In addition to the mill, you will also find a power plant, a dry kiln, and even parts of a railroad car that was used to haul the timber from the mill.
