Sousa Family Preserve Details
The Sousa Family Preserve totals 213 acres near the Walnut Hill Focus Area. Previously destroyed by fires in 1947, the logging has since ceased in the area, leaving behind a lush forest of hemlock and red maple. Of particular importance here are vernal pools and wetland habitat though, hence the designation as a "forever wild" area. No logging or other such activities are allowed in this work in progress. Visitors are forewarned to wear hiking shoes through the 1.75 miles worth of trails though as they are still in the process of development and have some rough spots.
