Aroostook Valley Trail Details
Once the former Aroostook Valley Railroad running from Washburn to Presque Isle, the Aroostook Valley Trail is now 28 miles of backcountry woods and fields. Constructed in 1909, the rail line here was small and, at its biggest point, ran only a total of 32 miles. With such a short expanse, the route did not last long and was left to nature in 1996. Today, the trail stretches through the towns of Caribou, Woodland, and New Sweden as well, making for a nice hiking stretch through a popular, but remote, area of Maine.
