Great Heath Public Land Details
As one of Maine's largest peat bog ecosystems, Great Heath Public Land is considered an appointed Ecological Reserve to protect the delicate species that grow here. Though not uncommon, the convex shape of the land creates what is known as a domed bog ecosystem, and this one is particularly perfect. With seven miles of the Pleasant River running through the area, boaters here will get a unique nature perspective compared to other regional waterways. The river itself is also unique in that it is one of seven in the state supporting Atlantic Salmon.
