Spring Trail Details
This trail (formerly know as the Penobscot Mountain Trail) is the most popular trail climbing Penobscot Mountain because of its proximity to Jordan Pond House. It rises gently through the woods, crossing streams and carriage roads before beginning its steep ascent to the summit. The trail climbs the sharp cliff faces of Penobscot, relying on a few metal rungs where footing is particularly bad. After reaching the summit, it descends between Penobscot and Sargent Mountain to Sargent Mountain Pond. This small, vegetated pond is a typical boreal forest pond, but is a refreshing sight nonetheless. It is reportedly the first lake ever created in the State of Maine (see the related Point of Interest). The climb up Sargent, the Park's second highest summit, is gradual, and seldom used.
