Tipton Place Details

Dating from the 1880s, the Tipton Place was built for Colonel Hamp Tipton, a veteran of the Mexican-American War and a descendant of Revolutionary War hero William "Fighting Billy" Tipton. Col. Tipton's daughters were Cades Cove schoolteachers known as Miss Lizzy and Miss Lucy. You'll also see a smokehouse, corn crib, cantilever barn, and wood shed on the property, along with another long shed used to house beehives -- locally known as bee gums.
