Egg Rock Lighthouse Overlook Details
The Egg Rock Lighthouse is located near the mouth of Frenchman Bay and is visible between the Schoodic Peninsula and Mount Desert Island. The lighthouse on Egg Rock was built in 1875. Egg Rock was not named for its shape, but rather for the many seabird nests found there. Early lighthouse keepers helped protect the seabirds, helping to reestablish many endangered species. Today, the lighthouse is automated, but the seabirds remain.
