Beaver Dam Pond Details
Look to the north end of the pond to see how it got its name. Beavers have built a substantial lodge of branches and mud for their home. The pond is surrounded by aspen and birch -- the beavers' favorite trees. The resident beavers are descended from a pair introduced into the park by its first superintendent, George B. Dorr. He brought them in because fur trappers eliminated the native population long before Acadia was established.
