Aylmer Lookout, a decommissioned fire lookout, is accessed by following the Stewart Canyon Trail from the shoreline of Lake Minnewanka to the canyon and continues along the shoreline until the climb begins. From the lookout, Lake Minnewanka sits below in all her brilliant blue glory. Plan for a full day to tackle this out and back (11.8 km each way) hike. Continue upwards for another 3.4 kilometers (2.1 miles) along the Aylmer Pass trail to open meadows of wildflowers and views of the Palliser Range. More detailed trail descriptions and maps are available at Banff National Park and Parks Canada Visitor Centres, and remember when out on the trails that cell phone service is not reliable. The trailhead for this hike is in the Lake Minnewanka day-use area off of Lake Minnewanka Road.
