Near Buttermere and Crummock Water, small Loweswater lake remains relatively untouched by tourism. There's an upgraded wheelchair accessible lakeside path around the lake, which travels through Holme Wood, a small mixed woodland running down the southwest side of the lake, and populated by deer and red squirrels. Loweswater is one of the best lakes for swimming in that no watercraft, including canoes and kayaks, is allowed.
