Rainy Lake Visitor Center Details

Rainy Lake Visitor Center is at the northern entrance of the park; it's located at the end of Highway 96, off of Highway 11, which runs from the park to the gateway town of International Falls, Minn. You can buy tour boat tickets here, as well as check in for your campsite reservations or rent canoes or kayaks. Ranger-led walks of the park's botanical gardens also begin at the visitor center. Besides the information desk there are educational displays, a bookstore, children's activity table, and a movie theater where an informational film plays on a loop. During the summer, you can take advantage of a free public boat launch. In the winter, you can start an unforgettable journey on the Rainy Lake Ice Road from here. Tour boats depart from a dock located next to the visitor center building. There are also picnic tables and restrooms at the visitor center. From early January to late May, the visitor center is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. From late May to late September, the center is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From late September through early January, the center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday.
