Hubbard Glacier Details
Hubbard Glacier is a long tidewater glacier reaching both Russell Fjord and Disenchantment Bay. Although those two bodies of water are currently connected, they are not always due to the glacier advance to the point where the waters intersect. Russell Fjord has become Russell Lake at least twice in recorded history with more opportunities possible in the near future. Both previous events ended with massive breakage of the ice dam between the water. The furthest tributary to the glacier reaches back 76 miles from the glacier's snout; it takes over 400 years for the ice to traverse from the start to snout of the glacier! Where the glacier meets the bay icebergs can calve into the sea, visitors are fortunate to witness such momentous events, but should keep their distance from the edge of the glacier to avoid danger.
