Fish Train Trail Details

The Fish Train Trail is a rails-to-trails project that converted the Yakutat Southern Railroad to a recreation trail. The railroad was called the Fish Train because it carried fish from canneries on the Situk River to the dock in Yakutat. You can hike or bike this trail. It is also open in the winter to winter recreation. The trail is 2.5 miles in length and extends from the Yakutat School at the intersection of Yakutat Road and Forest Highway #10 (Dangerous River Road) to Colorado Road near the airport. This end of the trail is within walking distance of the Yakutat terminal of the Alaska Marine Highway. This hike is not inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. It is within Tongass National Forest.
