Cathedral Trees Trail Details

Hiking the Cathedral Trees Trail gives you the impression you've stumbled into an actual cathedral; perhaps it's the towering pillars, hushed sounds, and muted light beneath the canopy. However, the name actually refers to the trees growing in a family group. This trail is also family-friendly, and passes some of the largest redwoods in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Begin at the marked trailhead in the Big Tree Wayside parking area, or you can access the Cathedral Trees Trail via the Elk Prairie Trail or the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, across from the Prairie Creek Visitor Center. The fern-lined trail has a gentle grade and displays many examples of nurse logs, the fallen redwoods that support the growth of new plants and trees.
