Biosphere Reserve Center Details
With ecosystems rich in flora and fauna both terrestrial and marine, Virgin Islands National Park was among the first protected areas designated by the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an International Biosphere Reserve. It's one of 30 Reserves to have both terrestrial and aquatic habitats, making it that much more important to researchers. At any time there are a number of research projects running on the island, including sea turtle counts and nest monitoring, marine habitat studies, fish counts, coral disease and die-off studies, archaeological digs, fish counts, and more.
