Manzanita Creek Trail Details
This long and relatively less traveled up-and-back hike (7.4 miles roundtrip) passes through dry, nondescript woodlands, which is part of the reason it's less popular than other trails in Lassen. The trail starts at the Manzanita Lake Campground. Note that there's no sign for the trailhead; make your way towards the south end of the campground, opposite site 31, to begin your hike. After crossing open woodlands for about two miles, the trail begins to move towards the creek and gets a little more lush and overgrown. End your hike in a brush-covered area below the steep slopes of Loomis Peak to the west, Eagle Peak to the south, and Lassen Peak to the east. The views are not the best here because the mountains are partially obscured by trees. The biggest attraction of the trail is the wildflowers you'll see along the upper portion of the creek.
