Overview

By using Chimani, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this policy. If we make any significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by posting a notice of such changes on the login page.

Chimani cares deeply about protecting your privacy. Questions and comments can be sent to support@chimani.com.

Summary

  • We will never spam you or give your personal information to anyone.
  • You control when and how we send messages to you.
  • Other users cannot see you unless they already know your email address.

Your Information

How we treat your information

We will never disclose your personal information without your permission.

We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with a third party, especially your email address and phone number, without your express permission, unless required by law.

We will only access your personal information when:

  • You specifically request us to do so, for example when you are having technical difficulties.
  • It is required by law.
  • It is necessary to maintain our system.

We will protect your information from other users

Nobody can see a user's data unless they are part of it. Chimani may share information about user habits only in aggregate and never in a way that could be individually identifiable.

For example, Chimani may report an aggregate pattern such as "the average amount of time for people aged 22-26 visiting Yosemite National Park during August," but would not report the habits of one identifiable visitor.

How to delete your information

You can destroy your account when you choose. Contact support@chimani.com with the subject line "account deletion." Chimani will respond within 48 hours to confirm your request and, once confirmed, will confirm deletion within 48 hours.

What information do we collect?

Usage information may include number of logins, last login, activity logs, and error logs. This data helps monitor service health, determine which features are most popular, and diagnose errors or slowness.

Cookies and log files

Chimani sends a cookie to your mobile device that contains an identification number unique to that device. Chimani uses this cookie to provide a continuous experience and to record how the service is being used.

As with most mobile apps, Chimani logs visits to pages within the app. A log entry can contain information typically found in the request header, such as browser type, Internet Protocol address, and the date and time of the request. This log information is important for security, audit, quality improvement, and monitoring the health of the service.

Permissions Request Explanation

Below are human-readable explanations for why Chimani apps request various permissions on your device.

iOS and Android

Location. Location permission may be used to verify your position near a point of interest for a verified visit badge, display your location on the map when you toggle that setting, and power Chimani's viewport augmented reality viewer. Your location is never recorded by Chimani and is used only locally on your device.

Notifications. Chimani requests permission to send notifications about park events such as road closures, safety notices, fire warnings, or free park entrance days.

Camera. Chimani requests camera access for the viewport augmented reality viewer so the app can overlay points of interest on the live camera image.

Android specific

Other permissions considered normal permissions by Android include:

  • INTERNET. Used so the app can retrieve images and media files from Chimani servers.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. Used to determine whether the device is online or offline so Chimani can retrieve updates or use locally stored information.
  • READ_SYNC_STATS, READ_SYNC_SETTINGS, WRITE_SYNC_SETTINGS, AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS. Used to create and monitor a background sync account so the app can keep trip information up to date.
  • WAKE_LOCK. Used to keep the display awake when using the Chimani dream service.
