Riddle Lake Trail Details
One of the easiest ways to see classic Yellowstone scenery at its finest, this short trail travels through wildflower-filled marshy meadows and a forest of surviving old lodgepole pines, new firs, and fallen trees that are the result of the 1988 burning. The trail, which remains fairly level for its duration, leads to Riddle Lake, a picturesque body of water with wooded shores, rushes, and water lilies that create a great habitat for moose, elk, bear, loons, sandhill crane, swans, and herons, all of which are often spotted in the area. Backed by the peaks of the Red Mountains, this lovely lake is closed annually during the early summer due to high levels of bear activity, and it is recommended that hikers travel this trail in large parties at all times of the year.
