This Norris Geyser Basin feature has experienced a good deal of change in the last few decades. The geyser was originally a small, occasionally erupting hot spring, but later transformed into a roaring, surging geyser until it literally exploded, throwing rocks and debris some 216 feet away, and rendering it the milky-watered, bubbling hot spring that it is now.
