Steamboat Geyser Details
Claiming the title of world's tallest active geyser, this impressive geyser is known have eruptions measuring more than 300 feet high. Unfortunately, this is a most unpredictable geyser, experiencing both major and minor eruptions. Major Eruptions, which have occurred between 4 days and 50 years apart, are the most spectacular, and can last up for 40 minutes. The nearby Cistern Spring is the best indicator of a major eruption, as its deep pool is completely drained just prior to major activity. Minor eruptions, which measure 15 feet, are more common, and are often accompanied by large steam emissions. Check with the Visitor Center for more information and predictions about both major and minor eruptions.
