Pebble Creek Trail Details
Isolated in the northeast corner of the park, this seldom-hiked trail provides a tranquil journey into a glacial valley surrounded by peaks. The trail runs through a forest of lodgepole pine and firs as it makes a steep 1,100-foot ascent into the upper valley, paralleling Pebble Creek, and occasionally requiring hikers to forge the creek. The tough ascent is rewarded with extraordinary views of Cutoff Mountain, Wolverine Peak, and Sunset and Abiathar Peaks, and the valley below. Much of the upper valley is damp meadow, and is often filled with wild geraniums and lupine, as well as lots of bighorn sheep, moose, and elk.
