Old West Dinner Cookout Details

Saddle up for an evening straight out of Yellowstone’s frontier past. The Old West Dinner Cookout begins at Roosevelt Corral and takes you to Yancey’s Hole by horseback, covered wagon, or stagecoach. Along the way, sagebrush flats and wide open valley views set the tone for a true Western adventure. At the cookout site in Pleasant Valley, the scent of cowboy cooking welcomes you in. Dinner features hearty steaks, Roosevelt baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, chuck wagon corn, corn muffins, watermelon, fruit crisp, and assorted beverages. Vegetarian meals are available with advance notice. After the feast, relax with campfire brewed cowboy coffee while a singing cowboy provides the soundtrack. Kids can try roping a wooden steer or meet the draft horses, making it a memorable evening for the whole family. The full experience lasts approximately 2.5 to 5 hours depending on your chosen mode of travel. Wildlife is often active in the Roosevelt area at this time of day, adding to the atmosphere. Choose Your Ride Horseback riders follow a one hour trail through sagebrush flats to the cookout site, with a shorter return ride of about 30 minutes. Riders must be at least 8 years old, at least 48 inches tall, weigh under 240 pounds, and understand English. Closed toe shoes are required, long pants are recommended, and helmets are provided and mandatory. Guests should arrive about 10 minutes early for check in and safety procedures. Stagecoaches offer a historically inspired ride of about 30 minutes each way. Coaches feature padded seats, both covered and open tally ho seating, and are pulled by draft horses. Children under 8 may not sit in the upper tally ho seats. Guests should be prepared for changing weather. Covered wagons travel the same route as the stagecoaches and take about 30 to 45 minutes each way. Wagons have padded bench seating and canvas covers, though guests should dress for wind or rain. Children under 3 are free if riding on a lap and sharing from an adult plate. The child rate applies to ages 3 to 11. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Activities may be canceled due to severe weather or lightning, with full refunds provided. Meeting location: Roosevelt Corrals, 105 Roosevelt Lodge Rd, Yellowstone, WY 82190. Guests not staying at Roosevelt Lodge Cabins should allow extra drive time due to park distances and traffic.
