Old Faithful Geyser Details

Old Faithful is unquestionably the most famous geyser in the world, even if it's not the biggest or even the most predictable geyser in Yellowstone. One thing it is, is consistent. Old Faithful has been erupting every 35 to 120 minutes since 1870, shooting water 90 to 184 feet high for between a minute and a half and five minutes. Old Faithful erupts, on average, every 90 minutes. One way to tell when the next eruption will be is to find out how long the previous eruption lasted. The longer the eruption, the longer the wait until the next one. Another way is simpler: just look at the size of the crowd -- it grows larger as the next expected eruption appears. If the observation benches are overflowing, there's a good chance the next eruption of Old Faithful is near.
