Mammoth Campground Details

Located five miles south of the North Entrance at 6,200 feet, Mammoth Campground is the only campground in Yellowstone open year round. Set among scattered juniper and Douglas fir trees, it offers welcome shade in summer and a front row seat to the parks northern wildlife scene. Elk and bison are frequent visitors, and the campground is close to Mammoth Hot Springs, hiking trails, and fishing access. Operated by the National Park Service, the campground features flush toilets year round, potable water, food storage lockers, and trash and recycling collection. Firewood is sold seasonally, and an amphitheater hosts seasonal programs. There are no showers, laundry facilities, dump station, camp store, or internet service, though cell reception is generally available. Wood and charcoal fires are typically permitted unless fire restrictions are in place, and propane stoves are usually allowed. Checkout time is 10 am. Sites are reservation only from mid April through mid October and first come, first served from mid October through late March via Recreation.gov. During peak season, reservations can be made up to six months in advance on a rolling basis. Portions of the campground close from mid October through April, depending on conditions. Dates are subject to change.
