The 7,831-foot Mount Everts was named after an early European explorer of Yellowstone, Truman C. Everts, who was lost for 37 days in 1870 before being rescued. The mountain is comprised mostly of layers of sedimentary rock, a reminder that this area was an inland sea up until about 70 million years ago.
