Lamar River Drainage Details

Named after Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar, Secretary of the Interior, this 44 mile-long river is the largest single tributary for the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park. Flowing from the west side of the Absaroka Range on the park's eastern boarder, this often very muddy river feeds a number of small creeks and basins, including Slough Creek, Pebble Creek, and Soda Butte Creek. It also provides some of the best and most consistent fishing in the park, and is home to a number of species, including the native cutthroat trout.
