Howard Eaton Trail Details

Paralleling the intensely popular Grand Loop Road, this seldom-traveled trail offers a more isolated way to experience a number of park features. The trail, which is not well maintained for its duration, but is well packed in some of the more popular segments, and connects the Mammoth hot springs, Tower, the Hoodoos, Norris Campground, Yellowstone Lake, and West Thumb. The trail is level throughout, and is often shortened into segments. Although they are all scenic in their own right, the most picturesque section runs between the north side of Yellowstone Lake, following the river though meadows and pine woodlands, while the most popular segment is the southern end of the trail as it reaches the Le Hardys Rapids overlook.
