Gibbon River Drainage Details

Flowing from the Grebe Lake in the Washburn Range, this powerful river, named for General John Gibbon, takes its course through the Norris Geyser Basin, Elk Park, Gibbon Meadows, and the Gibbon Canyon before it leaps 88 feet down Gibbon Falls, joining Firehole River and becoming Madison River. This western Yellowstone river, as well as the many features it flows through, is popular fly fishing territory, and offers a wide variety of fishing conditions and catchable species.
