There's a hair-raising story behind this mountain's name: U.S. Geological Survey members had electrical discharges shoot out of their bodies while exploring the peak in 1872. At 10,969 feet, Electric Peak is the tallest mountain in the Gallatin Range and one of the most prominent landscape features in Yellowstone National Park. There are trails to the summit but an ascent will typically require a two or three night backpacking expedition.
