Beauty and Chromatic Pools Details

We are looking at Beauty Pool, a well-deserved name given the wide range of colors due to the bacteria present here. For the most part it is a complete mystery as to how the hundreds of pools and geysers may be connected underneath. However, here at Beauty Pool, we have some clues that provide some possible answers. The spring next to us is called Chromatic Pool, and here we can observe an interesting and unique exchange of function. At times, the flow of water will increase in one and drop in the other, which provides definite evidence that these two pools are connected underground. Not only is the color unique and beautiful in these two pools, but notice how occasional strong winds in the basin will whip up the water on the surface, causing some of the bacterial mats to loosen and tear.
