Around Wildlife Details
Yellowstone National Park is famous for the abundance of large animals found in its limits. One of the most enjoyable activities is watching these animals, but visitors should be aware that it is illegal to willfully remain near or approach wildlife, including birds, within any distance that disturbs them. Wild animals, particularly those with young, can be unpredictable and easily provoked. Bears and bison, particularly, require a good deal of caution. DO NOT approach bison, as they are easily startled and are prone to chasing visitors who invade their space. Bears should be treated similarly. All visitors, particularly those exploring the backcountry, should be prepared for bear sightings and possible bear encounters.
