Albright Visitor Center Details
The building housing the Albright Visitor Center was once part of Fort Yellowstone, a reminder of the time when the U.S. Cavalry, not the Park Service, was charged with protecting Yellowstone. The bachelor officer's quarters now houses a museum on Yellowstone history, galleries of paintings by Thomas Moran and early photographs by William Henry Jackson, and a theatre where films are shown every half hour in the summer and on request in the winter. Rangers are on hand to provide information and there's also a summer backcountry office where you can get camping, boating and fishing permits. Located at Mammoth Hot Springs and open year round, the center offers information, a bookstore, exhibits on wildlife and history, and films about the park and the national park idea. Call 307-344-2263. Open daily, year-round. Hours: 9 am-5 pm
