Hunting Details
A time-honored tradition that allows hunters to engage with nature while upholding conservation principles. The activity is permitted only in designated "Preserve" areas, ensuring a balance between recreation and wildlife protection. Certain locations, such as Grandview, Camp Brookside, Sandstone Falls, and the Lower Gorge, are strictly off-limits, along with campgrounds, visitor centers, and high-traffic areas where safety is a priority. Hunters must adhere to West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (WVDNR) regulations, along with additional park-specific rules. Baiting game, trapping, and permanent tree stands are not allowed, and temporary stands must be removed within 24 hours to prevent abandonment. ATVs and ORVs are prohibited within the park, helping to preserve the natural landscape and minimize disruption to wildlife. Maps detailing hunting zones and restricted areas are available online, and for specific inquiries, hunters can reach out to the park's law enforcement division. By following these guidelines, hunters can enjoy the thrill of the sport while respecting the land, wildlife, and other park visitors. Responsible hunting practices help maintain the rich outdoor traditions of Southern Appalachia while ensuring that the preserve remains a safe and sustainable environment for future generations.
