Accessibility & Inclusive Travel Details
The park is dedicated to providing an inclusive experience so all visitors can enjoy its stunning scenery and outdoor adventures. Those with mobility challenges will find accessible parking and ramps at key locations, including Canyon Rim and Sandstone Visitor Centers, which also feature wheelchair-friendly restrooms and exhibits. The park offers several accessible trails, such as the Canyon Rim Boardwalk, which leads to a breathtaking overlook of the gorge and the New River Gorge Bridge, and the Sandstone Falls Boardwalk, where visitors can enjoy a close-up view of cascading waterfalls without navigating rugged terrain. Designated viewing platforms at Grandview and Brooks Falls also provide wheelchair-accessible vantage points to soak in the park's natural beauty. For visitors with visual impairments, the park offers an audio-described version of its brochure, detailing the landscapes and attractions for a more immersive experience. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can take advantage of printed materials and resources available at visitor centers to help plan their trip. Service animals are welcome in all park facilities and on all trails, provided they remain leashed or harnessed unless these devices interfere with their work. Additionally, visitors with permanent disabilities may be eligible for the Interagency Access Pass, a free, lifetime admission pass granting entry to national parks and other federal recreation sites. As part of its commitment to inclusivity, New River Gorge continues to improve accessibility with ongoing projects, including new walkways and playground equipment in the Grandview area. With these features in place, the park ensures that everyone can explore and enjoy the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Mountains.
