Upper Gray Wolf River Trail Details
Winding its way through subalpine and montane forests, meadows, and riverbanks, this shady trail slowly makes its way to Grey Wolf Pass at 6,150 feet. The trail is forested for most of its duration, featuring thick alders, hemlocks, and firs, but occasionally opens up in lush, wildflower-filled meadowlands and windswept avalanche slides. Following Gray Wolf River upstream, the trail also passes many deep, clear pools, rapids, and waterfalls until it reaches the picturesque Graywolf Basin, where there are amazing views of the jagged mountain peaks as they rise above the meadows. The last ascent to the Pass is spectacular, with wide-open views of the Dosewallips Valley, the East Ridge, Mounts Deception, Mystery, Constance, Olympus, and Anderson, as well as the Needles, The Brothers, and more.
