Duckabush River Trail Details
Seldom traveled due to its remote location and difficult sections, this wilderness trail follows the Duckabush River through a river valley and lush subalpine meadows before climbing to the 4,950-foot O'Neil Pass between Mount Duckabush and Overlook Peak. Passing through the National Forest before entering Olympic's park limits, the trail experiences extremely varied terrain, including long, flat stretches and very strenuous ascents and descents, deep river crossings, and long patches of snow along the river's shady banks. Highlights along this little-maintained trail include beautiful virgin forests, Marmot Lake (and marmots themselves, easily recognizable by their shrill calls), and a truly isolated backcountry experience.
