Wildlife Viewing Details
The North Cascades is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, and insects. Visitors in the more popular areas of the park are likely to see Columbia blacktail deer, Douglas squirrels, pika, butterflies, dragonflies, banana slugs, swallows, grosbeaks, and owls. If you're lucky, you'll have the chance to see a bald eagle, grey wolf, fisher, bear, or an elusive bobcat off in the distance. Getting a glimpse of some of these beautiful animals can be one of the highlights of visiting the wilderness of North Cascades National Park and its surrounding parkland, and all visitors should remember that they play an important role in protecting this diverse ecosystem. Always stay at least 100 yards from large animals and at least 25 feet from small animals. Do not disturb bird or insect nests, and comply with state and federal fishing regulations. Do not feed any of the park wildlife; it is illegal and harmful.
