Tree and Plants Details
The North Cascades are a vast ecosystem encompassing thousands of species of trees, plants, and shrubs. The park can be divided into eight specific life zones. Most of the forests found in the park are dominated by conifers, which are able to thrive in elevations ranging from sea level to alpine, but there are two lovely species of larch that turn a brilliant gold in the fall. Many of the subalpine and lowland meadows in the North Cascades are renowned for the diverse wildflower species that bloom as soon as the snows begin to melt. Despite the wide range of soils and sun exposures throughout the park, almost every region can claim hundreds of species, from the violet Lewis Monkeyflower to red Scarlet Gillia, blue marsh Forget-Me-Nots, and the white Western Trillium.
