Hiking Details

There are a wide variety of hiking options in North Cascades National Park, ranging from accessible boardwalk trails to extended, multi-day backcountry trips. Over 400 miles of trail traverse the park's dense evergreen forests, jagged peaks, and glacial valleys, and many access remote, isolated destinations. All areas of the park offer exciting day hikes ranging in distance and difficulty, and most trails are easily accessed from State Route 20 or from the Stehekin, Wash., area. On these popular trails, hikers can experience bright blue alpine lakes, deep glacial valleys, old-growth forests, flower-filled meadows, thriving wildlife, and steep rocky peaks. Trail distances range from a few hundred feet to over 15 miles, and many trails can be connected for longer day trips. More adventurous hikers will also find unparalleled backpacking trails of varying distances; backcountry camping requires permits, which are available from most area ranger stations and visitor centers.
