Hidden Lake Trail Details

This long day hike up to Hidden Lake Lookout is one of North Cascades National Park's most popular day hikes, and for good reason. The trail begins climbing in a nice, shaded forest that quickly gives way to avalanche valleys and fragile subalpine meadows filled with countless species of wildflowers and grasses. After crossing a small stream, the trail takes off again, climbing over rocky talus slopes dotted with heathers and huckleberry until it begins the final climb to the summit. At this point, the trail becomes very rocky and is often hidden by lingering snows; watch for the cairns that mark the trail as it scrambles a steep half-mile to the lookout at the top of the 6,890-foot mountain. The exposed summit provides beautiful views over the little blue Hidden Lake and rows and rows of towering peaks. There is a small side trail that leads to Hidden Lake, which is tucked away below the peak and is often frozen until mid-July, but it's a dangerous scramble in both directions, and the scenery is much grander from the summit. The signed trailhead is 4.5 miles down Sibley Creek/Hidden Lake Road, 10.2 miles from Cascade River Road in Marblemount.
