Bicycling Details
Bicycles are permitted on Washington State Route 20, Cascade River Road, and State Route 542, as well as in North Cascades National Park campgrounds. Biking is a fun, environmentally friendly way to see the landscape of the North Cascades and is a great way to explore some of the small communities in the area. Cycling is especially encouraged as a mode of transportation in Stehekin, Wash., and bikes can be rented from Discovery Bikes and carried on the Lady of the Lake ferry. Most hiking trails in the National Park are not well suited for bicycles, but there are numerous mountain-biking areas for cyclists of all abilities in the nearby Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests. Whether exploring the North Cascades by mountain or road bike, be sure to wear a helmet and reflective clothing, and bring enough water and food for your adventure. Cyclists are also encouraged to carry maps, first-aid kits, personal identification, and materials for on-road repairs.
