With an elevation range spanning approximately 13,000 feet, there's a variety of habitat available to the park's wildlife. Common mammals include the Columbian black-tailed deer and Douglas squirrels; common birds are the Stellar's jay and common ravens. Park animal life runs the gamut from mammals to fish, amphibians and reptiles. There are 65 mammal species in total, 14 species of amphibians, 5 species of reptiles, 182 species of birds, and 14 species of native fish. Some of the most popular mammals, such as elk and black bear, range across habitat zones throughout the summer. Mountain goats are typically confined to alpine or subalpine zones.
